Camilla Gough

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

A self-taught jeweller, Camilla’s training comes from a lifetime of building things. She originally studied sculpture at the Victorian College of the Arts and completed her final year of study at the Kansas City Art Institute. From her studio in Melbourne’s Nicholas Building, Camilla translates these skills to her jewellery practice. Her work is constructed piece by piece, with each element made by hand to tell the story of the predestined wearer.

Drawing strongly on her background as a sculptor, Camilla has become known for her definitive approach to making jewellery. Inspired by the uncompromising lines and contrasting softness of natural and urban landscapes, Camilla’s contemporary jewellery uses strong forms and delicate curves. Maps, fault lines, and escarpments are some of the reference points for her work. Metal is layered and carved giving a sense that each piece is mapping the history and origin of an unknown landscape. Randomly placed, as if recently unearthed, diamonds and sapphires glisten within the patterns of her pieces.
