Debbie Sheezel
Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
Debbie has worked on a scale that few other jewellers have: as an established artist working primarily with enamel, she completed a mural measuring 16m by 3m for the Brisbane International Airport in 1993. Over the course of her career, Debbie has been involved in a dozen solo shows and numerous group shows and has taught enamelling privately, at RMIT University and has conducted workshops across Australia. She has been making jewellery for 16 years, while also maintaining her art practice.
At its core, Debbie’s work is an exploration of the intricacies of enamel as a material—its intense colours, its diverse textures, its simultaneous softness and hardness. Her pieces are the concentration of 40 years of art and contemporary jewellery practice, employing enamel in concert with precious metals and pearls, diamonds and semi-precious stones to articulate her inimitable aesthetic. The colours in Debbie’s pieces will last forever, expressing a central theme in her work: the pursuit of something beautiful and eternal.
