Jasmine Watson

Auckland, New Zealand

Jasmine’s work is assembled from individual components that are meticulously hand cut, cast and hand finished. The attention to detail necessary has served her well as the principal jeweller and jewellery designer for the films The Lord of the Rings and The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe. Jasmine has exhibited both in New Zealand and internationally, and recently won two prestigious enamelling awards in Tokyo, Japan. She is based at Workshop 6 in Auckland where she also teaches jewellery and enamelling classes.

Jasmine’s work is made by hand using piercing, casting, and the champlevé technique. Her contemporary jewellery is inspired by oriental textiles, the elaborate geometric arrangements of arabesques and the infinite formations of mandalas. Combining layered and intricately pierced silhouettes with delicately blended gradients, her pieces often assemble to form elaborate ornamental sequences, repeating ad infinitum. She combines her background in film and costume making with her love of intricate detail and ornamental surfaces, creating jewellery that evokes a sense of theatre and occasion.
