Jessica Morrison

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

Jessica has studied an Advanced Diploma of Engineering (Jewellery Design and Metalsmithing) at Box Hill Institute of TAFE as well as a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Gold and Silversmithing) at RMIT University. She has been a part of exhibitions at the National Gallery of NSW, NGV (Ian Potter Centre) and Craft Victoria and now teaches at Box Hill Institute.

Jessica is inspired by the instinctive emotional response she has to her natural surroundings. This is usually coupled with a closer observation of both the structure and randomness of form and colour. Working with malleable materials, she quickly and intuitively creates objects reminiscent of natural forms. Jessica’s contemporary jewellery also investigates the organic casting methods of lost wax and cuttlefish casting. Through the addition of vitreous enamel and oxidization, the metal then becomes a canvas for the play of colour. The resulting surface is transitory and evolves with the wearer over time.

Once You Were Mine

We recently commissioned seven artists to make a piece of jewellery. Their brief was simple: take an item once belonging to an e.g.etal staff member and recycle, recreate, re-imagine it. These items came with their own story, were given a new one by each artist and now they wait for their new owners. We’ll be handing these pieces onto new owners via our Facebook page.
