Lisa Crawford Jones

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

Lisa is drawn to repetitive patterns, showing that in the small you can find the infinite—a single element of a pattern implies the infinite total. After spending 15 years working in media and communications, she studied Gold and Silversmithing at Northern Melbourne Institute of TAFE and now works from her studio at her home. Her work often begins with detailed research that leads to drawings, which she slowly refines. These designs form the basis for pieces that she makes, drawing energy from the meditative nature of her creative process.

Her work is designed to highlight the tensions between light and shade. She uses oxidised silver in much of her work, in combination with stones such as sapphire, ruby, topaz, garnet and amethyst. This contemporary jewellery delicately incorporates a diverse array of references, from tabernacles and sea urchins through to understated Gothic and Victorian motifs. Lisa’s work reflects a gentle awakening of her own spirituality and understanding of her place in the universe.
