Nga Waiata

Napier, New Zealand

Nga lives by the sea and makes rings from sustainably mined crystals and recycled native New Zealand hardwoods. She has worked in various roles within the fashion industry after having studied a Diploma in Visual Arts, focusing on photography, painting and print. Nga has been making jewellery for three years and draws inspiration from her surroundings. Her beginnings in fine arts see her drawing inspiration from a wealth of art history, particularly the bold formal qualities of 1st century Egyptian art, 4th century Georgian art and 20th century abstract art.

Nga is a believer in the powers that crystals carry: fluorite brings clarity by providing calm and balance, citrine awakens the mind and disperses negative energy, amethyst is a healing crystal that enhances stability, strength and vigour…Nga carefully works these crystals to sit atop wooden bands of black maire, pohutakawa, puriri—native New Zealand hardwoods that themselves carry a deep affinity with nature.
