William Llewellyn Griffiths

Melbourne, Victoria, Australia

William began his career as a trade jeweller in London’s Hatton Garden more than 30 years ago. He has exhibited his work throughout Europe, Japan, the Unites States, Australia and New Zealand. His work assimilates a variety of historical aesthetics to create pieces that play with scale. Pieces explore different ways in which a viewer can interact with objects they are in some way familiar with. William’s distinct style has led to collaborations with designers Alexander McQueen, Vivienne Westwood, Dolce & Gabbana and Terry de Havilland.

William takes elements from medieval history, gothic and baroque architecture, renaissance couture and tattoo culture to create jewellery layered with symbolism and possessing a rich historical undercurrent. His pieces combine the alluring nature of danger with romance and unholy reverence. He seeks out seldom-used cuts of stones and unusual colour and metal combinations, such as the juxtaposition of black oxidised silver with the lustre of 18ct yellow gold.

Once You Were Mine

We recently commissioned seven artists to make a piece of jewellery. Their brief was simple: take an item once belonging to an e.g.etal staff member and recycle, recreate, re-imagine it. These items came with their own story, were given a new one by each artist and now they wait for their new owners. We’ll be handing these pieces onto new owners via our Facebook page.
