Yuri’s jewellery strikes a balance between simplicity and detail in terms of design. She spends lengthy periods of time, with her hydraulic press and hand saw, producing each piece of jewellery in order to create a completed design that she feel wholly represents herself.
Originally from Japan, Yuri has been influenced by the philosophy of wabi sabi: the Japanese art of finding the beautiful in imperfection and the profound in nature. In this way Yuri’s work has a quiet and gentle beauty. She also refers to traditional art and craft techniques such as Sashiko; embroidery from the Edo period, which farming women used to patch their clothes at a time when a piece of cloth was a luxury.
