FIGMENT Exhibition March 2010

by e.g.etal

As part of the L’Oreal Melbourne Fashion Festival, e.g.etal presents FIGMENT, an immersive landscape of jewellery and objects showcasing the works of seven contemporary jewellery designers.  The exhibition will be held from 16 March – 10 April 2010.

Drawing on personal memories of a treasured fable or myth, participating artists - Katherine Bowman, Michaela Bruton, Anna Davern, Natalia Milosz-Piekarska, Jessica Morrison, Karla Way, Jessica Morrison and Katherine Wheeler – have been invited to produce new works that reference these rich narratives through colour, materiality and form.

For the selling exhibition, our showroom will be transformed by a bespoke installation into a vibrant mythical landscape.  The intention of the installation is to imbue the space with a sense of whimsy and playfulness while allowing a direct connection with the individual works on display.

Emma Goodsir, e.g.etal’s Director says, “While working towards our brief, many of the artists were unconsciously drawn to chilhood memories. In keeping, we plan to create an exhibition environment that will elicit the embodied narrative of each piece, enticing the viewer to recall their own memories of long days of play in imaginary lands.”

FIGMENT is being curated and designed by Fleur Watson from creative studio, Something Together in collaboration with French graphic designer AnneLaure Cavigneaux, Rodney Eggleston and the team from March Studio in response to a brief given by e.g.etal.

It is the first of three major events to be held in our gallery in 2010.  Other major events will include a selling exhibition of new work as a part of State of Design Festival in July.

FIGMENT was officially launched by Emma Goodsir and Fleur Watson at an invitation-only event on Thursday 18 March at 5pm.
