Northcity4 is the brainchild of Romani Benjamin, Katherine Bowman, Anna Davern, Caz Guiney and Ali Limb. These talented artists have come together under the newly refurbished ceiling of a warehouse in Brunswick. NC4 are driven by their own remarkable individual practices as well as a mandate to share their collective knowledge, skills and techniques through a program of mentorships, seminars, access studios and workshops, for those with and without previous training (so there is hope for us all). Both long and short-term studio tenancies will also be available for working makers and artists. The not-for-profit studio is committed to both work and education and also the integration of an environmentally sustainable work ethic into all aspects of contemporary jewellery and object design.
To celebrate the launch of the exciting initiative, as well as raise funds for studio essentials (you know: plumbing, ventilation, tools etc), Northcity4 will be hosting ‘Open the Door’. The event will be held at NC4’s warehouse: 61 Weston Street, Brunswick, on Friday 2 March, from 6pm – 8pm. Head along and purchase a piece of art by Katherine or a pendant by Ali, listen to Marcus Westbury and Natalia Milosz-Pierkarska lead a discussion, enjoy some food and wine and be there for to see NC4 open its door and its arms to Melbourne’s creative community.
