Kathryn’s commitment to jewellery combining metal and glass is expressed not only in her beautiful and constantly evolving creations but also in her prolific dedication to teaching and learning. She has studied a Bachelor of Visual Art at Griffith University, Bachelor of Fine Art (Gold and Silversmithing) at RMIT University and also a Master of Arts by Research (Gold and Silversmithing) at RMIT. Kathryn has also lectured and conducted many workshops, mainly on glass bead making, throughout Australia and New Zealand. In 2010 she was artist in residence at Indiana University.
Kathryn’s contemporary jewellery is characterised by the use of vibrant colour and repetition. She challenges herself to find new ways of combining metal and glass, making pieces in a limited series with each piece informing the next. Kathryn forms her glass pieces over a flame, making each one by hand so that no two are identical. When assembled her pieces are very supple and the tactile qualities of the glass make them luxurious to wear against the skin.
