Rhys Turner
Rhys was first introduced to the subject of jewellery in high school at the age of 14, and it has been his passion ever since. The freedom and unlimited boundaries of the design and making process naturally led Rhys to pursue jewellery making as his chosen profession.
Rhys draws inspiration from geometric forms and clean lines often seen in Modern and Minimalist Architecture and design. In his practice he creates pieces that are pared-back to their necessary elements to draw focus on the connection between contemporary jewellery design and traditional materials and techniques.
After completing a Bachelor of Arts (Jewellery) at CSU, Rhys went on to work as a manufacturing jeweller in Canberra and Melbourne, focused on developing a strong technical skillset with a broad knowledge of jewellery. In 2014 he was awarded the JAA Australian Jeweller of Year. Throughout his career he also worked to pass on his skills, teaching at Enmore TAFE, Charles Sturt University and mentoring several apprentice jewellers.
