Inspired by colour, these earrings reflect the colours of rainbows created by moon and sun. Rainbows are seen both around the feminine moon in a lunar halo and also from the masculine sunlight reflecting off the inside surface of the raindrop, like a mirror turning back toward the sky.
Lunar Halo (Left Earring) — The rainbow-like ring around the moon is called a lunar halo. Caused by the refraction of moonlight through ice crystals in high-altitude cirrus or cirrostratus clouds. Unlike rainbows formed by raindrops and sunlight, lunar halos occur at night and are formed by hexagonal ice crystals in the upper atmosphere. It appears as a faint, whitish or rainbow-edged ring surrounding the moon.
Sun and Rainbow (Right Earring) — The Sun is one of the oldest and most universal symbols across all cultures — a radiant source of life, truth, clarity, and power. Its symbolic meanings are layered, spiritual, and deeply archetypal. A rainbow is caused by sunlight interacting with water droplets or mist in the atmosphere. The light is bent (refracted), reflected, and split into its component colours, creating the circular arc we see in the sky.
