Jennifer Martin
Melbourne, Victoria, Australia
Jennifer’s work alludes to all things avian, mystical, symbolic, poetic and spiritual. Jennifer is currently studying a Masters of Fine Art (Gold and Silversmithing) at RMIT University. Using a variety of materials (mainly silver and gold and occasionally with sapphires, diamonds, pearls and interesting beads), her work often seeks to tell stories and in doing so examine the ability of jewellery to convey a narrative and carry meaning.
Jennifer is as much a storyteller as a jeweller. Each piece she makes has a narrative, picking up the thread of a tale and providing a glimpse into the whimsical imagination of the artist. She works intuitively and spontaneously, often letting the exotic beads and materials she collects dictate the imagery of her contemporary jewellery: fortune telling lovebirds in cages, bells hanging from the branches of trees, the imprint of lace on skin, forests of coral and seaweed, tall ships and stormy seas…each piece is hand made and tells its individual story.
