Elizabeth Kennedy
Elizabeth Kennedy is a gold and silversmith living and working in Melbourne Victoria. Born in Glasgow Scotland, she has called Melbourne home for the past 25 years. Elizabeth’s practice spans one-off exhibition pieces, bespoke commissions and a wide production range, using predominantly precious materials. Making all her pieces by hand, she creates intricate, delicate wearable pieces.
Elizabeth’s latest body of work is a series of precious pieces that reference her degree in sculpture, where notions of memory, space and the body were her guiding inspirations. These pieces will become a keepsake to hold close, representing loved ones. Layers, imperfect and beautiful. Gems to number the ones held close. A small wearable tower, strong and beloved.
For her silver work, Elizabeth individually hand drills every hole in the metals surface, a way of bringing light into the material. No two pieces will ever be exactly the same.
With Bachelor of Arts in both Sculpture and Gold and Silversmithing from RMIT, she has taught and lectured in gold and silversmithing extensively over the past 12 years, doing so while continuing to build her jewellery practice.
