Artist Jane Reilly creates an imaginary small world where the child inside all of us is at play. An abstract realm full of sculptures, ladders and table-like forms, holding handpainted jewellery pieces in brass, silver and copper.
In Jane’s playground, objects dance, converse and create stillness to breathe. Playful childhood reminisces brush up against whispers of loss.
Focusing on the motif of ladders, inspired by Yayoi Kusama’s work ‘Tender Are the Stairs to Heaven’, this body of work represents a sense of hope and connection. Following the overwhelming upheaval and disruption of experiencing the loss of a parent, this collection also reflects on questions about the afterlife.
