To celebrate the arrival of Cartier: The Exibition at the National Gallery of Australia, six e.g.etal artists were asked to create a limited edition jewellery collection for the NGA gallery store.

e.g.etal’s outpost at the NGA has been in operation for several years, bringing an inspiring selection of Australian contemporary jewellery to our nation’s capital. This new collaboration gives visitors the opportunity to trace the links between traditional jewellery and contemporary versions of the art form, and to take home a piece of handmade Australian design.

Welfe Bowyer, Anna Davern, Courtney Jackson, David Parker, Amy Renshaw and Lauren Trojkovic have each designed pieces with conceptual links to some of Cartier’s most famous themes, from the refined architectural lines of the Art Deco period, to the decadent jewels that have adorned some of the world’s most famous women.

The mesmerising opulence of gemstones is explored through Anna Davern’s playful, oversized earrings, using images of faceted gems printed on to metal forms.

Welfe Bowyer takes traditionally cut stones and encases them within highly textured, stippled metal rings, making the gems appear to rise up like regal crowns.

David Parker’s jewellery celebrates the ground-breaking aesthetic shifts that occurred in fashion, jewellery, art and architecture during the Art Deco period. David’s work also incorporates semi-precious stones such as onyx and green quartz, bringing the colours of the era to life.

Art Deco inspirations find different expression in work by Courtney Jackson, Amy Renshaw and Lauren Trojkovic, who each meld abstracted deco forms with contemporary influences.
