In her new exhibition, ‘Mixed Cut,’ Lauren Trojkovic’s signature geometric style has been elevated to include precious gemstones accented by angular clusters of gold. Influenced by the art of lapidary, a ‘mixed cut’ is a combination of various gem-cutting styles in a single specimen. Lauren interprets this concept by reducing her forms down to their basic polygonal planes, combining and contrasting them to create designs that are striking and refined.
Faceted planes of metal and polished gemstones are seemingly fused together to emphasise the relationship between the natural and manmade. Combined with hand engraving, each piece mixes elements of asymmetry, sharp detail and flourishes of textural embellishment.
