Where Moth and Rust Decay by Katheryn Leopoldseder
As part of the 2013 L’Oréal Melbourne Fashion Festival Cultural Program, e.g.etal was pleased to present ‘Where Moth and Rust Decay’, a solo exhibition of new jewellery work by Katheryn Leopoldseder.
The collection is Katheryn’s response to her recent travels through India, which can be read about here. These works reflect on the built environments of Indian and Western societies, revealing and exploring the values and aspirations that they represent.
The materials are a mix of semi-precious and common components, some of which have been gathered during visits to the subcontinent. The forms of the work are readily identifiable and resonate in both societies, but are at the same time unique to each. The collection aims to identify the common desire for security, value and sense of achievement that we often attribute to the structures we establish around ourselves.
The exhibition will be opened by Maggie Maguire, CEO The Abbotsford Convent Arts and Cultural Precinct. It is a component of the International Sangam Project – Australia India Design Platform, and is supported by the City of Melbourne 2013 Arts Grants.
