Mizar & Alcor by Julia deVille

Julia deVille - Mizar & Alcor

Julia deVille has created a new celestial body of work featuring precious devotional rings, earrings and necklaces.

Titled Mizar & Alcor, the collection embraces colour, with a focus on rose gold. Shimmering at the centre of the show is a Pavé Diamond Raven Necklace – a silver raven skull, pavé set with over 12 carats of white and black rose cut diamonds.

Mizar and Alcor form a naked eye double star in the handle of the Big Dipper asterism in the constellation Ursa Major.

Mizar is known as Vasistha and Alcor is known as Arundhati in traditional Indian astronomy. The pair is considered to symbolize marriage (Vashishtha and Arundhati were a married couple) and, in some Hindu communities, priests conducting a wedding ceremony allude to or point out the constellation as a symbol of the closeness marriage brings to a couple.

Each jewel in Mizar & Alcor is an act of devotion.
Devotion to oneself.
Devotion to a lover.
Devotion to a child.
Devotion to consciousness.
Devotion to god.

For the first time Julia has also teamed up with duo Louiseann & Kristian King to create custom jewellery boxes, or ‘secret sharers’, for some of the works.

Mizar & Alcor will exhibit at e.g.etal from 16 – 28 November, 2015.
