Exhibition | Shooting Stars & Electric Clouds
Opening Night: Thursday 9 April, 5-7pm
‘Shooting Stars & Electric Clouds’ is a new collection of jewellery by Liv Boyle, created in response to her residency at Camillo House, an artists’ retreat on Victoria’s Mornington Peninsula.
Under a blanket of stars, she watched as a storm unfurled along the dark horizon—visible only by lightning, strobing relentlessly, rave-like, for hours.
Inspired by the relationship of landscape and weather, Liv explores the shoreline as a site of constant flux. Where, in the aftermath of a storm, it becomes a composition of all that drifts.
Materials moved, broken, tangled, rearranged.
Working with a deliberate tension between precious and non-precious materials, Liv combines gold and pearls with beach plastics—a material now ubiquitous in the artist’s practice— finding that each needs the other to carry the story. Each piece in the collection becomes a relic of place, created from the landscape and in response to it.
She would like to acknowledge the Traditional Owners of the land that inspired this body of work, the Bunurong People, and pay respect to elders past and present.
