sterling silver, fibre optic glass beads
Justine Austen’s ‘Chromatic Spheres’ series showcases radiant glass beads in an array of juicy colours. This ‘Opera of the Sun’ necklace glows with shades of pink, red, orange and purple – a sunset immortalised. If someone is looking close enough, they may also notice the word ‘sun’ spelled out in the sterling silver details using morse code.
Fibre optic glass is made from thousands of fine, hair-like strands of glass pressed together, which together form intriguing cats-eye (or chatoyance) reflections. The glass is then cut and polished into colourful beads, which artist Justine Austen combines with her precise metalwork.
