The Altar Ring in sterling silver and white diamond is a handmade piece by New Zealand artist Kate Alterio, created for e.g.etal’s exhibition Site Specific.
“The theory that stars go supernova and create many of the elements of the periodic table fascinates me. I am particularly interested in those found within the human body. From the farthest reaches of the universe to a single cell, the microcosm is reflected in the macrocosm. I chose three of the more obscure constellations, each steeped in mythology and history, as the inspiration for my three rings.
Altar – represents the altar built by Hephaestus, the Greek God of artisans, fire, and smithing.”
Site Specific, presented as part of Radiant Pavilion Naarm/Melbourne Contemporary Jewellery and Object Biennial, is an exhibition that pays homage to the relationship between the interior and exterior of our being, and the inability to separate oneself from their environment.
Pieces from this collection will be shipped at the conclusion of the exhibition (from 3 October, 2024).
