In a world full of products without meaning, Jane makes sense of things through interpreting the world’s shadows, what lies behind, and what lies in the mark making we can all do. In her work, she captures abstract ideas, fleeting glimpses and memories that have no words – making her own language of things. Her vessels and jewellery speak of family, communication, belonging, identity and personal history. Jane finds peace when she creates, letting her hands, heart and intuition take over. The studio becomes a meditation space, where the world outside is no longer.
After completing a Diploma of Ceramics at Box Hill TAFE in 1996, Jane went on to complete a Bachelor of Fine Arts, majoring in ceramics, at VCA. She continued her studies at NMIT (now Melbourne Polytechnic) with an Advanced Diploma of jewellery, where she was named Best Student in her graduating year of 2014. Jane was Highly Commended in the 1997 Walkers Awards, and was a finalist in the 2015 Craft Awards.
