Romy Mittelman’s Family of Artists
Being the daughter of painter mother Susan Wald and sculptor father Marcel Mittelman, as well as sister to an architect brother, Romy Mittelman grew up with an inherent appreciation for artistic exploration and communication. “My parents are both very creative,” says Romy, telling us about her father’s career as a tailor, furniture-maker and kinetic sculptor. Romy also describes the way her mother has used her art as a vehicle for bearing witness, “[her paintings] are quite powerful…my mother is a great mentor and inspiration for me.” It is this shared love of conveying ideas and experiences through objects and spaces that has informed and ushered Romy through her own journeys as an artist.
