Melbourne-based artists Georgie Brooks and Juan Castro have come together to explore the threads of history, finding inspiration in cultures of the world that span back thousands of years.
Orfebre is the Spanish translation for ‘goldsmith’, a word that encapsulates the many skills, techniques and knowledge of this ancient craft. Their upcoming collaborative body of work will reference a cross section of ancient cultures, from the mysterious Bronze Age, to the Viking Era, and the ceremony of Spanish Catholicism.
The ‘Ishtar’ ring by Georgie Brooks has been handcrafted with 9ct yellow gold, and dotted with 17 light green sapphires. ‘Ishtar’ is the name of Akkadian – a Mesopotamian goddess.
