Through a series of workshops, talks and tours, you’ll gain a deeper understanding of contemporary jewellery as art form: how it’s defined, how it’s made and the people who make it.

What sets contemporary jewellery apart from other forms of adornment?

Join jeweller and educator Belinda Newick to learn more about the concepts, significance and methods of this sculptural art form, and the role it plays in all our lives. Belinda maintains a diverse practice as a studio based jeweller, independent curator and teacher at Melbourne Polytechnic in the Advanced Diploma and Diploma of Jewellery and Object Design. 

End the evening with a collection highlights tour, revealing the stories behind some of the most innovative and groundbreaking pieces in our gallery.

Pearls of Wisdom with Laura Eyles

Melbourne artist Laura Eyles reveals the magic of pearls. Discover how they are formed; their incredible variety and colour palette; and how to identify the five ‘virtues’ of a pearl. Laura draws on her experience as a jeweller and teacher, as well as time spent working at Australia’s oldest operating South Sea Pearl Farm: home to some of the most coveted pearls in the world.

Still Life Drawing at e.g.etal

A fun night out with friends or a bonding Mother’s Day experience – complete with free-flowing sparkling, delicious small bites and expert instruction to transform you from novice illustrator into confident artist.

Take a journey into Still Life drawing using contemporary jewellery as your inspiration. Hosted by the Windsor Workshop in the creative surrounds of e.g.etal gallery, you’ll learn the skill and magic behind Still Life illustration using a variety of mixed media. Beautiful vignettes will fuel your creativity, featuring sculptural jewellery by e.g.etal artists alongside locally-made ceramics from the Craft Victoria collection. Over a fun filled, bubbles sipping session, you will learn the fundamentals of still life drawing with guided exercises to help you get creative.

This class is aimed at beginners who want a taster in drawing or intermediates who want a different take on their creative processes. No experience in drawing or illustration is required.
