Artist Talk: The Art of Storytelling with Georgie Brooks (Thurs 1st Aug)
Thursday 1st August, 2024
5.30pm – 7.00pm
Cost: Free
Venue: e.g.etal, 150 Little Collins St, Melbourne
How do artists communicate the stories behind their work?
Join Melbourne-based contemporary jeweller Georgie Brooks as she discusses the importance of storytelling and narrative design in her artistic practice.
Prior to her jewellery career, Georgie designed exhibitions for cultural institutions in Melbourne, London and New York, and studied History and Interior Design. In her jewellery work, Georgie manipulates highly recognisable, common surfaces so that they become weathered and worn. The transformation of these surfaces gives her work a mysterious quality: like the discovery of a buried hoard, these pieces appear to have another story to tell.
This talk will appeal to creatives of all disciplines, or anyone curious about how artists weave stories, emotions, and powerful messages into their work.
Drinks and small bites provided.
