DARK MODE by Cass Partington & Rhys Turner

DARKMODE by Cass Partington and Rhys Turner

Join us for the opening night of DARK MODE
by Cass Partington & Rhys Turner.

Thursday 14th of September
4pm-7pm
at e.g.etal jewellery gallery
150 Little Collins St, Melbourne

[RSVPS NOW CLOSED DUE TO POPULAR DEMAND]

e.g.etal is delighted to present a joint exhibition featuring new work by renowned Naarrm / Melbourne based jewellery artists Rhys Turner and Cass Partington.

Inhabiting the liminal space between shadow and light, DARK MODE playfully explores the artists’ shared attention to technical precision and monochromatic restraint, fuelled by architectural inspiration.

Contemporary jewellery is rendered across a spectrum of seductive reflective and matte surfaces, black oxide, metal plating and geometric serialisation. Several of the artists’ iconic designs have been deliberately inverted, like a film negative, requiring the viewer to parse familiar objects in new ways.

Partington and Turner consider the affirmative possibilities of noise reduction, honing in and allowing our minds to organise via simplified means.

DARK MODE will exhibit at e.g.etal from 14th September to 4th October, 2023. An opening night launch event will be held on Thursday 14th September from 4pm-7pm.

PLEASE NOTE THE OPENING NIGHT OF THIS EVENT HAS REACHED MAXIMUM CAPACITY, AND WE ARE NO LONGER ABLE TO ACCEPT FURTHER RSVPs.

Cass Partington

Born in 1971 on unceded Gadigal Country, Cass Partington lives and works in Naarm/Melbourne.

Cass holds a bachelor of Criminology from the University of Melbourne and Graduate Diploma of Jewellery from NMIT. Over two decades of practice, the artist has produced a body of contemporary jewellery characterised by its formal simplicity and bold approach to material.

DARKMODE by Cass Partington and Rhys TurnerDesigned to be worn and interpreted, Cass’s objects are often inscribed with a hard edged minimalist codex echoing machine language. The artist’s unique lexicon allows the wearer autonomy to create their own meaning and significance. Cass Partington has been represented by e.g.etal since 2001, and her work is held in numerous private collections locally and internationally.

Rhys Turner

Rhys Turner draws inspiration from geometric forms and clean lines often seen in Modern and Minimalist Architecture and design. In his practice he creates pieces that are pared-back to their necessary elements to draw focus on the connection between contemporary jewellery design and traditional materials and techniques.

After completing a Bachelor of Arts (Jewellery) at CSU, Rhys went on to work as a manufacturing jeweller in Canberra and Melbourne, focused on developing a strong technical skillset with a broad knowledge of jewellery. In 2014 he was awarded the JAA Australian Jeweller of Year. Throughout his career he also worked to pass on his skills, teaching at Enmore TAFE, Charles Sturt University and mentoring several apprentice jewellers.
