Maintenance

Love your e.g.etal jewellery with absolute abandon, but keep in mind your beautiful and original piece deserves to be handled with extra care. Any guarantee of workmanship or liability on behalf of e.g.etal is subject to the proper care and maintenance of the item.

Gold and precious gemstones (even diamonds) are not indestructible. Gold by its very nature is an alloy that has the capacity for malleability. You should avoid your piece coming into contact with stainless steel, concrete, stone and other hard surfaces, which can cause scratches, dents and other damage. Avoid exposure to harsh chemicals (chlorine bleach or cleaning products) and extreme temperatures. We recommend that you do not wear your jewellery whilst bathing, swimming, sleeping or during sporting activities.

For precious rings, we advise you should have your ring checked every 6-12 months by a jeweller.  The settings around the stones are the most vulnerable and need regular servicing. It is not unusual for stones to become loose in their settings, depending on how the ring is worn.

Store your jewellery with care, ensuring the pieces do not touch, as one item may scratch another. Neckpieces and pendants should be stored flat to avoid a kink or ben forming in the chain or cable, or avoid stretching if strung on silk cord. Necklaces on silk cord should checked annually and may need to be re-strung from time to time.

Warranty

In the event that your piece appears to have a defect, please return it to e.g.etal for evaluation. We will repair or replace any piece with a manufacturing fault, but we do not provide warranty against normal wear and tear, loss of item, loss of stones, or theft.

e.g.etal’s warranty does not apply to items that have been handled against our care instructions or damaged by accident or misuse.

Damage or loss that results from failure to obtain repairs necessary to maintain the integrity of the product are also not covered.

e.g.etal’s warranty is available only to the person who purchased the product from e.g.etal.

Repair or alterations performed by someone other than e.g.etal or the original artist will void this warranty.

As your piece has been handmade by an artist, you may notice slight irregularities or variations that are a natural consequence of handcrafting. Many e.g.etal pieces are also intentionally rustic and organically shaped. Some will feature unique and individual gemstones with inclusions or colour variations. Others feature a surface treatment, such as oxidisation, that designed to wear off over time. All these are considered as part of the intended character of the item, and should not be considered a defect.

Some examples of common issues that would not be considered manufacturing faults include:

Discolouration due to exposure to chemicals (such as cleaning products, perfume, salty air, sulphur, skin creams, hairspray, chlorine, bleach or other).

Bent, or worn-out ring settings that have allowed a stone to fall out due to normal wear, accident or other damage.

Chipped or lost stone due to normal wear, accident or other damage.

Our goods come with guarantees that cannot be excluded under the Australian Consumer Law. You are entitled to a replacement or refund for a major failure and compensation for any other reasonably foreseeable loss or damage. You are also entitled to have the goods repaired or replaced if the goods fail to be of acceptable quality and the failure does not amount to a major failure. Note: “major failure” has a specific meaning under the Australian Consumer Law.
