Jana King’s practice is strongly influenced by the process of manufacturing, a dance or rhythmic meditative state when making her pieces. Many of her influences and designs come from dreams. Taking inspiration from urban landscape and transforming them into works of art in her mind before taking them to the bench for production.
Jana takes influences for her practice from geometric forms, strong and clean structural like silhouettes. Much of her work features pearls, pairing this modest gem with simplistic and elegant designs.
Fascinated by how things come together, Jana studied an Advanced diploma in gold and silversmithing at NMIT. Winning the hearts of her teachers while she was there, she was voted and won student of the year in 2014. Craving further bench skills to apply to her practice, She has since undergone an apprenticeship in jewellery manufacture and will finish her 3rd and final year in 2019. In 2017 she won apprentice of the year in the state of Victoria for her outstanding work as a first year apprentice.
