Katrina holds a Bachelor of Visual Arts and Applied Design (major in jewellery) from TAFE SA. After completing this degree she undertook a six-month mentorship at Adelaide’s Gray Street Workshop. Katrina has since taught jewellery hand skills and professional practice at the Adelaide Centre for The Arts (TAFE SA). As well as her jewellery practice, Katrina pursues her love of craft by making products for and maintaining her accessories label Kitty Came Home.
Katrina’s work uses primary geometric shapes to experiment with the forms, textures and contrasts in metal. She explores the connectivity of chain-making techniques and the movement achievable through the creation of forms that work with the body. The many intricate soldering joins in Katrina’s pieces create a sense of strength. Behind the visible surface of this contemporary jewellery, beautifully handcrafted links hold each piece together, heightening the delightful repetition of geometric shapes on the exterior of the works.
